Situated near the heart of
town, is "Curry in a Hurry ",
owned and operated by Hans and Lori Lee Mayne.
The Maynes,
residents of Maui since 1991, have been serving
the local community quality food at a reasonable
price for the last also started the Hawaiian
Strudel Company over 8 years ago, serving the
island for 3 years at Costco Wholesale Maui from
1997 through
Chef
Lori Lee, a southern bellé from San Antonio,
Texas, was raised working in the family run restaurant,
La Casita. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge
and an acute attention to service that can only come
from the true spirit of the Mom and Pop establishments.
Welcome
to the world of Chef Hans P. Mayne, the only
grandson of Brigadier General J.R. Mayne, who marched
into India in the early 1900's with the British army,
and set forth a path of two generations to be hands
on witnesses to this delightful and delicious alternative
to eating vegetarian! Chef Hans not only mastered the
art of Indian cuisine, he lived it! At the tender age
of 14, he helped out in his aunt's business, La
Belle Catering and Confections, who catered to
the largest race track in Southern India, (Gymkahna).
But this wasn't enough, he traveled to over 22 countries
and has mastered 7 languages as well! Through his wanderings
he wound up in Sweden for 8 winters, where he received
a degree in the culinary arts, (both front-of -the-house
and back-of-the-house.)

He was formerly employed by
the Swedish State Hotel and Mora International
Hotel. With that knowledge, he sharpened his
skills in the late 80's and found himself in Hollywood,
California, serving up his fares in distinct locations
such as "The Beverly Hills Hotel", "The
Beverly Wiltshire Hotel" along with "The Dorothy
Chandler Pavilion", to name a few! But still
he had "wandering feet" and found himself on the
shores of Maui in 1990, which led him on his first
day in Maui to Bob Longhis in Lahaina, who
hired him as head baker and pastry chef that very
same day! With that jump to paradise, he gave away
his return ticket back to C.A. on his 2nd day
here and he hasn't gone back since! Then more challenging
roles came into play by also being employed by "The
Grand Wailea" and "The Four Seasons Wailea".
But the "Gypsy King" in him made him wander once
more back to ancient India after 14 years of being
away to reunite with family and friends, and possibly
find "a good Indian wife"! Again, fate had other
plans for Chef Hans who eventually came back to Maui
and found his "bride to be" on the shores of Charlie
Young Beach. Since that fateful meeting, Hans and
Lori Lee, a.k.a. "Franz" have gone nonstop for 5
yr.'s, serving up first their Hawaiian Strudel Co.'s
desserts at Costco Wholesale Maui for 3 years, while
simultaneously serving up the only gourmet vegetarian
food at Simple Pleasures Cafe & Gallery in Lahaina.
Now the fun continues with their latest venture; "Curry
in a Hurry"! Bon Appetit!
